My name is Charles Djordjevic. I hold a PhD in Philosophy and a Bachelors of Nursing Science. My major research focus is on pain and how various philosophical and biomedical approaches are consonant or dissonant with each other. I currently work at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and teach at Lorain County Community College. Additionally, I am a member of the editorial board of the Journal Nursing Philosophy.
Prior to this, I was the Hong Kierkegaard House Foundation Fellow at St. Olaf College, MN, USA. I was also visiting researcher in the philosophy of the social sciences at the TINT Centre for the Philosophy of the Social Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland. Additionally, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich Institute for Theoretical Philosophy. I was a research assistant working with Prof. Dr. Catherine Herfeld. Together, we explored both the nature of concept formation and concept transference in the social sciences. We focused, specifically, on 'thick concepts' and their role in social scientific theories, models, etc. I defended my Ph.D. dissertation on May 30, 2018. I earned a Summa Cum Laude from the University of Zurich's Institute for Theoretical Philosophy. I worked under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hans-Johann Glock (University of Zurich) and Prof. Dr. Paul Horwich (New York University). I am currently preparing my dissertation for publication.
In addition to pain, I am also interested in: the philosophy of nursing; the philosophy of medicine; philosophy of the social sciences; and the philosophy of anthropology.
Please feel free to look around my website. There is a brief biography, a section on talks and presentations, another on papers (published and forthcoming), and contact information.
